PATAGONIA, AZ - Clenching an American Spirit cigarette in his teeth, Jim Harrison drives his muddy SUV through a creek and up a rocky road that cuts through the southern Arizona backcountry. There's a dog cage in the rear of the truck, shotgun shells strewn about the backseat, and small gray feathers, smeared with blood, plastered to the passenger-side dashboard.
